Top 5 reasons why cybersecurity is important

        1.) Cyber Affects all people

Cybersecurity is so important, because cyberattacks can occur. If cyberattacks occur it can affect the whole community and state. If hackers can get into the system they can stop the normal day to day activities that people need and use to function as a society. A case that was brought up in the article is a cyberattack that happened in Atlanta where hackers used SamSam Ransomware to attack the city of Atlanta and made them offline for 5 days. This caused a lot of damage to the city and a total cost of 17 million dollars.

2.)  The speed and revolution of technology will cause a spike in cyberattacks

By the end of 2020, there will be 200 billion connected devices as a result of the advent of   IoT, a modern technology that dramatically increases the number of connected devices. With this increase hackers can now automate cyberattacks by machine learning and can impose cyberattacks globally.

3.)  Damage to businesses and Jobs

Recently, many name brand companies have been hacked and breached, resulting in   millions of dollars in damages and fines for recovering the data. All these costs will cause many people to lose their jobs. Facebook was one of the brand companies mentioned in the article to have been affected by a cyberattack.

4.) Cybersecurity threats faced by individuals

Cyberattacks don't only happen to businesses and governments but they also can affect and in many cases do individuals. Identity theft is a major concern for individuals when cyberattacks face them. Hackers can gain their personal information and extort them for money and in some cases can harm their close family members if they don't comply

5) Cybersecurity laws and regulations

With the increase of cybersecurity threats, there will be new laws and regulations put into place. Consumers who face cybersecurity threats will be protected as long as they follow the laws and regulations put into place. There should be more severe punishments for those who choose to commit illegal cyber activities, to ensure that they don't do so again in the future as well as serve an example to everyone else.
